What kind of music is less obnoxious?

“What kind of music do you like?”
“Oh I like everything…except rap and country.”

Does this response sound familiar to anyone else? It seems like 88% of the people I meet claim to enjoy 88% of the music out there. It’s just those two pesky genres that keep us grumbling. Maybe you really do like rap. Maybe you like country. Maybe you even like both. There are definitely redeeming qualities to each category. Here are some pros and cons:

Rap is Good: Wu Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5, De La Soul, Common
Rap is Shitty: Puff Daddy, Soulja Boy, Ying Yang Twins, Nelly, Brian Austin Green

Country is Good: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Randy Travis, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton
Country is Gross: The Dixie Chicks, Billy Ray Cyrus, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift

Now go listen to your Michael Bolton album.

    There is 100% no redeaming value to country music. It is the worst thing that has ever happaned to music. The twang, bad lyrics, clothing, and everything else associated to it like NASCAR is just plain awful. I would agree that rap is getting worse but there is more redeeming value to it then country. Just thinking about country music makes me want to light my eyes on fire.

    I love rap of all kinds but I also think its way more obnoxious. The lyrical content alone is grounds enough to have to talk to your bishop.

    You should do a round two of this one, Ska vs. Nu-Metal. Now thats obnoxious.

    Hey Nelly is a strike against Country as well as rap. He did a country song with Tim McGraw. Which could answer the question of what is more obnoxious than country music. Bad rap and country mixed together.

    I must say that although neither rap nor country are first choice of music to listen to, I do like certain artistis in both categories. Both have some good qualities to them. If I need to get hyped up, gain some energy, rap can do that for me. If I need to sing really really loudy to something as I am driving in the car, country does that for me. So don’t completely dismiss them.
