Which is the better ’80s skateboard movie?
Gleaming the Cube and Thrashin’. Two of the best movies of all time. In case you haven’t seen these movies here are some facts that might help you decide:

Plot Summary: Brian Kelly, a 16-year-old skateboarder is investigating the death of his adopted Vietnamese brother. Brian’s brother is killed when he discovers that the shop he works in sends weapons to Vietnam instead of medications. To the police it looks like suicide, but Brian knows better so he skates off to investigate the murder himself.

Plot Summary: Two skateboarding gangs battle each other for supremacy. The rich Valley kids, “The Ramp Locals”, are led by Corey Webster, while the leather-clad, street-wise punks, “The Daggers”, follow Tommy Hook. The trouble begins when Corey falls in love with Hook’s little sister. The rivalry between the gangs culminates during the grueling “LA Massacre,” a 20-mile downhill skateboarding race.

Thrashin’ is way sweeter than Gleaming the Cube. That chase scene to ‘Wild in the Streets’, the skate joust, and the final race that Airbourne totally ripped off? Priceless.
Oh my gosh. Neck in neck.
Any movie where rival skate gangs battle for supremacy is the epitome of the 80’s to me.
Well, my FAVORITE 80s skateboard movie was an after school special called “A Different Kind of Winning” because it was about girlz…
But I would have to vote for Thrashin’ since I’ve never seen Gleaming the Cube. Dan votes for the latter, though…

Part of the movie is shot at the Fun Zone by the bay separating Newport and Balboa island so that gets high marks in my book. Christian Slater as a skateboarder avenging his brothers murder, come on how great is that plot!
Plus I have never seen Thrashin’, so how could I vote for it?
I’ve never seen either movie. Sorry I cant vote this time.
It’s gotta be Gleaming the Cube for the following reasons,
1. It’s Christian Slater
2. The super mega awesome skateboard they put together at the end
3. His friend lives in a bomb shelter
4. Tony Hawk plays chicken in a pizza hut truck with the bad guy
5. Tony Hawk has 7 different phones in his room
6. It’s Christian Slater
7. The wicked awsome method off the barrier to disarm the bad guy
Seriously I could go on forever. The only real thing Thrasher has going for it is Josh Brolin and the wheels the bounce. (although I do love the movie). Another honerable mention, the Police Academy with David Spade where they Skate but then become C.O.P’s Citizens On Patrol.
I asked David this question and he looked at me like I was nuts:

I still remember seeing Gleaming the Cube at Totem Lake Cinemas with my cousins and the next day i went to Toys R Us and got myself a Nash Scooter/Skateboard. Yes you could rip the handrails off and it turned into a skateboard…totally awesome…

Gleaming the cube thrashes, Thrashin no doubt!! I remember watching Gleaming the cube as a youth 100s of times and the last scene where he was doing the freestyle on the roof was awesome!!
